Mandinka or Mandingo language is the primary language of the Gambia. It is also spoken by millions of people spread over the countries of Mali, Senegal, Guinea, Cote d'Ivoire, Burkina Faso, Sierra Leone, Liberia, and Chad. It is a Niger-Congo language belonging to the Mandingo branch. For Mandinka, the Latin alphabet is the official writing system, but the Arabic alphabet is the older script more widely used.
